AFK-PVP
AFK & PvP
Going idle, stepping away safely, and controlling whether you can be attacked.
Last updated August 2026. Part of the VortexEssentials series.
Going AFK
/afk (aliases: /away, /gone) toggles your AFK status manually. You'll also be automatically marked AFK if you go 5 minutes without moving, chatting, or running a command.
Once you're AFK:
- You're teleported to the dedicated AFK world and turned invisible.
- Your tab list name gets an AFK tag.
- You can't move, chat, run most commands, or deal damage while flagged, trying to do any of those just shows a reminder that you're AFK.
- Falling into the void while in the AFK world is completely safe, it automatically un-AFKs you instead of hurting you.
To come back: run /afk again, or use /spawn while inside the AFK world, either one clears your AFK status and returns you to wherever you were beforehand.
The AFK World
A small, calm void world built specifically for going idle in. No mobs spawn, there's no weather or day/night cycle, and you can't build, break, or interact with anything while there, it's a pure safe zone.
If you'd like some background music while you're idling, turn on the AFK World Music setting in /settings, and ambient music will play automatically whenever you're AFK there.
AFK Music
/afkmusic lets you see and pick from the available ambient tracks:
/afkmusic list- see every available song and its length./afkmusic set <song>- change the currently playing song for everyone.
There are 8 tracks in rotation (Slumber, Starlight, Morning Mist, Ember, Cascade, Wanderer, Dusk, and Celestial), and they play back to back automatically once music starts, you don't need to restart it between tracks.
PvP Toggle
/pvptoggle turns your ability to fight other players on or off. Off by default.
- While off, you can't deal or take PvP damage against/from anyone, and neither can anyone whose PvP is also off.
- The toggle applies instantly, there's no delay or waiting period before it takes effect.
Combat Tag
Landing or taking a hit from another player starts a 15-second combat tag, shown as a boss bar that counts down. Getting hit again resets the timer back to full.
While tagged:
- Most commands are blocked, including teleports, so you can't just command your way out of a fight.
- If you log out while tagged, your opponent gets notified that you left, but the tag itself is simply cleared, there's no penalty attached to it in this system.
A Few Notes
- Two PvP-off players (or anyone with PvP off) simply can't damage each other at all, there's no accidental PvP.
- The combat tag and PvP toggle work independently of one another, they only intersect at the point where PvP-off players are blocked from dealing/receiving damage in the first place.
