VortexFishing
Fishing
Flash Fishing is a full custom fishing system, built from the ground up with its own rods, catch mechanic, rarity tiers, traps, and dedicated world. Forget vanilla fishing rods, they don't work here.
Last updated August 2026.
Overview
Fishing only works with a TheVortex fishing rod. Vanilla fishing rods can't be crafted, found, traded, or used on this server, so your first step is picking one up from the Rod Shop (see below).
Once you're geared up, head to the Flash Fishing world and get casting.
How to Fish
Casting works differently here than vanilla Minecraft. Once your rod is out and you get a bite, a skill-check bar pops up on your screen:
- A bar appears with a moving cursor sweeping back and forth, and a highlighted "zone" somewhere along it.
- Left-click while the cursor is inside the zone to land the catch.
- Miss the zone, or don't click in time, and the fish gets away.
You've got a few seconds to react once the bar appears, so stay ready after you cast. Right-clicking during the bar cancels your attempt.
Better rods give you a wider zone to hit and a slower-moving cursor, making successful catches easier and rarer fish more likely.
Catch Rarity
Every fish you catch falls into one of seven rarity tiers, from most to least common:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Epic
- Legendary
- Mythical
- Exotic
Your rod's quality directly affects your odds at higher tiers, better rods pull rarer fish more often. There are dozens of unique fish species across these tiers, each with its own weight range and sell value.
Uncommon-and-above catches don't reveal themselves right away, they drop as an Unidentified Specimen until you get them researched (see below).
Occasionally, instead of landing a fish, a successful catch will reward you with Fish Tokens instead - a separate currency used for gear upgrades.
Rods
Rods come in the following tiers, from weakest to strongest:
Trash → Common → Rare → Epic → Mythic → Exotic → Archangel → Satanic
Higher tiers give you more durability, a wider hit zone, faster bites, and better luck toward rare catches. Archangel and Satanic rods are unbreakable, but they aren't sold in the shop - they're earned through smithing or rituals elsewhere on the server.
All rods below Archangel have limited durability and will eventually break with use, so keep an eye on your rod's condition (you'll get a warning once it's running low).
Rods are purchased with a combination of balance and Fish Tokens from the Rod Shop, accessible through the Fishing NPC hub.
Fish Traps
Fish Traps are placeable devices that passively catch fish for you over time. Place one on the surface of water and it'll start reeling in catches on its own, no rod required.
There are three trap tiers, each holding more storage and pulling from better rarity odds the higher the tier:
- Tier 1 - smallest storage, more common catches.
- Tier 2 - more storage, better odds at rarer fish.
- Tier 3 - largest storage, the best rarity odds of the three.
Traps catch fish periodically on their own, and fill up over time until you come collect them. Only the player who placed a trap can open and collect from it - though traps can be picked up and handed off or replanted by someone else, resetting ownership.
Traps are purchased through the Trap Shop, also accessible via the Fishing NPC hub.
Research
Uncommon-and-higher fish need to be identified before you know exactly what you caught. Bring your Unidentified Specimens to the Researcher, drop them in, and they'll be identified for a flat fee per fish, paid from your balance.
Once a species and rarity has been identified by you, it'll show correctly for you going forward. Unidentified fish can still be sold, but only for a fraction of their real value, so it's usually worth researching them first.
Selling
Take your catch to the Fish Seller, load up your fish, and sell. Prices are fixed per species and rarity, and Epic-and-above fish also pay out Fish Tokens on top of your cash reward.
Soulbound Rods
Worried about losing your rod? Look out for the Soulbound enchantment. A rod enchanted with Soulbound won't drop on death, it stays in your inventory no matter what.
The Fishing Hub
All of Flash Fishing's menus, the Researcher, Fish Seller, Rod Shop, Trap Shop, and your catch collection, are consolidated behind a single NPC. Just walk up and interact with the Fishing Hub NPC to access everything in one place.
The Flash Fishing World (SOON)
Flash Fishing has its own dedicated world, purpose-built for fishing (and future fishing events).
/fishworld- teleport straight there. Aliases:/gotofishing,/fishingworld,/fishisle.
The world is a calm, permanently dusky void world with no mob spawning or weather, kept small and contained so you're never far from the action.
A Few Notes
- You need a TheVortex rod to fish at all, vanilla rods simply won't work.
- Rod durability is real, don't let your rod break mid-session without a backup.
- Research before you sell if you want full value on rare catches.
- Watch for upcoming fishing events, the Flash Fishing world was built with them in mind.
